Angelique at reception was so kind. She let us check in early, and after the restaurant had closed, she arranged for her husband, the cook, to make us dinner. I really appreciated it, and the meal was delicious. The village is charming, and the hotel sits above it on a hill with a stunning turquoise lake view. The main tourist spots are about a 15-30 minute drive away. Our room was small, more like a little Airbnb studio, with a full kitchen even though there’s a restaurant downstairs. The window opened onto a breathtaking view. The room’s cleanliness was disappointing compared with other places we stayed in France. The bedding and towels were stained and smelled unpleasant, so I can only give the room three stars. This place has a lot of potential and could be perfect if the cleanliness were better.

The room was boiling hot, with hot floors, walls, beds, pillows, and towels. Even with the windows wide open all night, neither of us could sleep on either of the two nights. Outside it was cool and pleasant, so maybe our room was over a heating system or an oven, I really don’t know. It felt completely abnormal, and no one should have to sleep like that. Be especially careful if you’re traveling with children. I wouldn’t consider this a place for a family. The showers were both completely clogged and impossible to use. The room wasn’t clean to begin with, yet at checkout they still charged us for “cleaning.” They also ignored my breakfast choices and brought and charged us for whatever they wanted. There were too many other taxes too, including charges for kids that we hadn’t encountered elsewhere in Europe. Be careful choosing where to stay, because this can ruin the whole trip. The photos look good, but the actual place was nowhere close to them.

The lake view, good location, and quick, easy check-in earned an extra star, but this was easily the worst stay of our 10-day trip through southern France. The value for money was nonexistent, especially at the three-digit nightly price. We traveled in July when temperatures were above 35, and air conditioning was our top priority. The room was advertised with A/C, but all it had was a portable fan, nowhere near the same thing. We barely slept. The kitchenette was missing basics like a decent knife for groceries and a towel for handling a hot pan. There were no trash bags or bathroom soap either. There was a spider and web in the shower. Most unexpectedly, there was no toilet paper. We messaged the number provided straight away and got no reply. Someone came to “clean” during the day and still didn’t bring any.

The tartare, beef steak, and chocolate mousse were delicious and nicely presented. The view was amazing too. In August 2018, the kitchen opened from 7:15 pm. The waiter’s English wasn’t very good, but he really tried. ;-)
