Hotel Pozzo di Borgo

The staff made my stay feel easy and comfortable. Lisa and her excellent crew deserve a special mention: they found me when I went past the address on arrival, served lovely breakfasts, and helped me find medication after a small mishap. The hotel is tidy and welcoming, with a calming cat around. It's close to the bay and its attractions, but tucked away from the traffic. The historic building fits right in among the nearby cafes and restaurants.

The beautiful cat was a highlight and made our stay much better. The location is handy, right in the centre of the old town, and valet parking was useful at €48 per night. The staff were friendly, but I wouldn't call this a four-star hotel, two and a half stars at best. We had to cancel just 12 hours after making the booking, but they refused. I understand that was the policy, but there was no flexibility and they rarely answered emails, so communication was poor. The rooms and amenities felt dated and stale, with everything painted black. It didn't feel clean.

The bed was comfortable, the location was great, and both reception and the cleaning staff were friendly. For us, two nights was enough. It does the basic job of giving you a place to sleep, but I wouldn't want to spend more time there than necessary. The atmosphere felt cold and empty, with nothing cosy or welcoming about the materials or details. There were practical problems too: the main door was extremely heavy, and nobody helped. I saw some elderly people struggling with it as well. Parts of the table and closet in our room were broken. The brown walls and black furniture had no decoration to brighten them up. There were no toothbrush cups or hand soap in the bathroom, no welcome card, and no minibar. There was just one small bottle of water on the table for two people, and it wasn't fresh or refilled. There were no books or magazines to read either. The city beach has no natural shade, and the hotel has only two parasols for all its guests, so you can imagine how often we could go there. We stayed in five hotels on our Corsica tour. This one was far below the standard of the other four-star places we visited, though the price was just as high.

We had a relaxing, comfortable stay. The hotel is along a pedestrian street with plenty of good restaurants nearby. The setting and breakfast were delightful, and the service felt welcoming and helpful.
