Huttopia Etang de Fouché

The pitches are huge and the site was very peaceful. We did have a stressful start, though: on arrival we were told about a cycle race and Saturday road closure, but reception couldn't say when we'd be able to leave, even though we were moving on that day. Someone at reception gave us a clear answer the next day. It would help to hand out a leaflet on arrival and mention events before people book. The map is quite a walk from some pitches, and each wash block could use an emptying point for chemical toilets.

The lake looks lovely, but it seemed dirty to us. After swimming, we found grime on our bodies and had to shower, so we used the campsite pool instead. We spent two nights here on our way back to Germany and otherwise found it beautiful. Our power cable also couldn't reach the nearest hookup. We managed fine without electricity for those two nights, but if you need a connection, bring a longer cable or ask for a pitch nearer a power station.

There’s a small supermarket within walking distance, and the lake makes for a pleasant walk. We stayed a week in a touring van. Our pitch was a good size, with trees and hedges between sites, but the nearest fresh water tap was about 100 metres away and also served as the motorhome service point. I checked with reception because I thought I’d got that wrong, but they confirmed it. A toilet and shower block near our pitches stayed closed throughout our visit, even though the site seemed busy. Families made good use of the pool.

The pitches were tidy, shaded, and private enough, and the staff were lovely. There’s plenty to do here, with a pool, a lake you can swim in, a restaurant and other attractions. I’d have given five stars if the sanitary areas were looked after more often. Toilet paper and soap had run out at times.
