Hôtel Orly Superior

I was exhausted, so some of this may have been my own fault, but finding the hotel was a struggle. It’s only a few minutes’ flat walk from the bus station, yet I couldn’t find a signpost. Google Maps seemed just as confused, and I ended up walking in circles. A kind bus driver finally pointed me to a footpath marked for another hotel. Carrying luggage in 29 degrees was not fun. Check-in was easy, and there were cold drinks, though nobody advertised them. The bed was really comfortable. I would have liked a kettle, and I didn’t realize there were sofas for waiting or relaxing until breakfast time. The breakfast setup itself was fine.

Having staff who were so nice and accommodating was a real help. They let us leave our bags when we arrived early or had a late departure. Hotel Orly Superior is also conveniently close to the airport. The room felt quite outdated, though, and breakfast was disappointing for €9: a cup of cheap yogurt, cereal, and no coffee. The location and service are good, but the rooms and breakfast could be better.

Getting to this place took me around two hours to figure out, and once there I found dirty floors, an unclean hotel overall, and staff who were rather rude. I could smell people smoking weed from my room. It’s called an “airport” hotel, but you can’t walk there from the airport. You have to take the tramway, then, when I left early in the morning, get a shuttle to the airport. I’d expected a comfortable one-night stay directly at the airport, and got the opposite. I didn’t get a breakfast package, which I would’ve expected since I was leaving early. After hanging out in Paris, I also had to pass through rather dangerous areas on the outskirts to get back. No taxi driver wanted to take me to the hotel. If it had cost 30 euros a night or less, I might have understood, but at this price, no.

The shuttle has to be booked on site, by phone or email isn’t accepted, and it fills up quickly. There are no sockets by the bed, either. The rooms were dirty, dusty, and smelly, the shuttle bus was dirty and smelly, and the heating was dirty and didn’t work. The shower swung between too hot and too cold. Everything seemed old, crumbling, dirty, and poorly maintained. I travel quite a lot, and this was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I can’t rate it below one star, which is what it deserves. Please see the attached pictures. I’d suggest spending a little more and staying somewhere else near the airport.
