Maison d'hôtes - Le Relais des Saints Pères

Sophie made our short stay memorable, greeting us with a huge friendly smile and doing her best to communicate despite the language gap. Our Android phones helped with the chat, and she even carried one of our bags upstairs. She was concerned when we arrived late, which was kind of her, though we’d been held up by Geneva’s beauty and sandy beaches. Sorry again, Sophie. We had five bags organized for our previous stay, but only brought three up for this one night. That was lucky, since the family room was on the third floor. I followed Sophie up and then heard my wife struggling with the heaviest suitcase. I felt bad for leaving it to her, but she handled it like a champ. The room was cozy and had two double beds, a single bed, and a top-notch ensuite bathroom. The photos don’t quite capture how nice the place is, and the dining room was charming too. We were comfortable there, though we regretted skipping breakfast. We’d planned our morning meals around different cities, but the best spot in town disappointed us and had run out of croissants. Sacré bleu! Auxerre turned out to be smaller than I’d imagined. I’d assumed it was a big city because Ajax played Auxerre in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 1993. My football logic was off. For anyone staying in Auxerre, I’d say book this place and the breakfast. We left smiling. Thanks, Sophie, for a lovely, brief stay.

We were able to get into our room much earlier than expected, which was a relief after a long drive. Our family of four stayed in the top-floor room of this very old, quirky house, with wolf footprints in the ancient brick floor. The photos really don’t show how beautiful it is. It’s right in the center, and there’s a car park about a minute away. Jerome was kind and welcoming, and his English was very good. I’d happily recommend Le Relais Saint Pere.

Jérôme and his family made me feel completely at home during my stay at B&B Le Relais des Saints Pères in Auxerre. The restored house is beautiful, and the accommodation was exceptionally comfortable. Jérôme was always gracious and helpful, even making French calls for me that had nothing to do with my stay. I loved the homemade breakfast each morning. I’d give the place more than 10 if I could, and can’t recommend it highly enough.

The rooms are lovely and warm, with the feel of a kind little town in France. The owner looked after us so well and was very kind. I hope I get to come back.
