Our room had bed bugs, and they were ferocious. The walls are VERY thin too, so we heard a couple making love next door ALL NIGHT. The Hotel de Blauvac is conveniently placed in the centre ville, but the mildew smell and dank feeling as soon as you enter the lobby should set off warning bells. Trust your instincts and leave. Don’t be fooled by the bathrooms, which look new. Terrible room. Spend another 20 euros on a quality hotel.

I came to AVIGNON expecting an old French town, and this hotel really fits the mood. The vintage style isn’t perfect, but it feels right for the city. People complain about the room smell, but to me that’s just the smell of wood and old furniture, not Ikea style. The only issue was the receptionist. She wasn’t totally friendly, though I suppose she did her best.

The renovated bathroom was spacious and nicely done, but the supplies were meager: just two bath towels for two people, no hand towels, and two small shower gel packets. The trash can was rusty and dirty. The room itself was tiny and dark, with a window facing a wall. Its furniture and wiring were outdated, and the air conditioning didn’t work. There was also an unpleasant cigarette smell as soon as we walked in. It’s a beautiful private mansion with character and a central location, but expensive for what it is.

Right in the city center, this intimate hotel has plenty of charm. The rooms are spacious and each one is different, with a grand monumental staircase. Prices are very reasonable. Book ahead, especially for spring and summer.

It wasn’t a terrible room, but it felt cramped for a long stay. It was a bit small and very hot. Opening the window brought in a lot of outside noise, and the air conditioning was noisy too.
