Apartment Bayeux

Excellent location, and the staff are genuinely nice and eager to help. The building is dated, though. We were in room 103, and opening the door brought a musty, stuffy smell and visible mold on the ceiling. The place seems busy and the cleaning and bedding were excellent, so I don’t think the smell came from poor cleanliness. We left the window open and the blind closed for six hours, but the odor returned when we shut the window to sleep. It woke me up and gave me a stuffy nose. Older reviews mention the same mold issue, and it needs to be fixed. Sound carries too: I could hear neighbors snoring, walking and shutting doors. The toilet area was very dark and smelled a bit like urine, the room fixtures looked old, and the mattress was worn and sagging. The hallway was dark as well. Reserve parking in advance, or there are a few free spaces near the roundabout. It does the job for one night, but I’m unsure I’d return. Such a good location, too bad the property isn’t being maintained well.

The location and service were the best parts of our stay in Bayeux. There was some peeling bathroom paint, so that cost a couple of stars, but the room had an air conditioner with fully working controls, which seems unusual around here and earned a big star back. It’s awesome here if you get the chance to visit Bayeux.

You can walk to town and the train station from this hotel, so it’s a handy spot for tourists. The property itself is dated, small and only in moderate condition. Our family room had bunk beds for the kids, which was a nice touch, but it was at the top of the hotel under a sloped ceiling, making the already tight space feel claustrophobic. There were no proper windows, just a skylight as the only light source. The small shower had only a handheld head and badly needed a fresh coat of paint on the ceiling. The door locks used physical keys and were temperamental. Having to use a key from inside to lock or unlock was particularly concerning, and in the States I think that would violate fire code. Overall, a very middling stay.

The service was great, but the old property and its damp smell completely ruined the stay for me. As soon as I entered the room, the humidity set my allergy off badly, almost causing an anaphylactic attack. If you have mold, dust or humidity allergies, don’t stay here. The walls are paper thin, so I could hear neighbors watching TV, talking and especially coughing at midnight, probably from the same allergy. I stayed two nights and managed, but I don’t think I could have lasted without a window. The Wi-Fi upload speed was only 1-2 mb too.
