Hôtel Kyriad Angers Ouest Beaucouzé

The room was about as bare as any I’ve stayed in. There was just one electrical outlet, high up on the wall by the bathroom, so a phone or GPS had to hang from its charging cable. The bed was uncomfortable, and the pillows felt like foam with no support. I had the worst sleep of my bike tour. The shower felt like a cocoon, with barely enough room to move, and breakfast had very little choice. I had to carry my heavy bike bags up three flights of concrete stairs, making three trips. I’d asked for a lower-level room and was told none were available, but later arrivals asked to change rooms and got lower ones. I wouldn’t recommend the place.

The facilities were clean and basic, but worn out and due for an update. The bathroom and shower felt a bit small. Breakfast was adequate, though there was much less choice than at the same hotel group’s other locations.

The mattress was reasonably comfortable, but that was the only real plus. The room was tiny and needs refurbishment, with just one socket. The bathroom was about the size you’d expect in a caravan, and the shower-head holder didn’t fit while the curtain wasn’t wide enough. We’d booked to relax while travelling from southern Spain to Caen, but I won’t stay here again.

It’s fine for a cheap night if you bring your own pillows. The ones provided were old and lumpy, and the mattress was uncomfortable. The quiet location and lovely receptionist earn the two stars. You get what you pay for.
