Manoir d'Hastings

The rooms are clean and pleasant, and the location is excellent for the Caen ferry. But the pleasant parts of the hotel are let down by an owner who seems to take advantage of both staff and customers. On a Saturday evening, with the hotel full, a single staff member was handling reception, taking drink orders, and serving a restaurant with around 30 covers. They were clearly stressed and couldn't provide the expected level of service. The food menu was outrageously overpriced for the tiny portions of unusual food, and the service was frankly poor. Based on how our family was treated by the owner, it seems he's relying on Google reviews and the captive market created by the excellent location. I can't recommend this hotel and would urge others to avoid it. This is the sort of hospitality that gives hospitality a bad name!

We stopped here just before the ferry and had a really nice stay. The room was pleasant and spacious, and the restaurant food was very good. It was much better than some previous reviews might have led us to expect.

We booked two double rooms the night before our return ferry from Ouistreham. From the start, the receptionist seemed fairly off hand. Our room smelled terrible, like the toilet was blocked. We left the door and window open, but after three quarters of an hour it was just as bad, so we went to reception. She showed no care or interest and immediately said there was nothing she could do because every room was booked. Then she walked off, leaving us standing there in disbelief. Eventually she reluctantly contacted her manager, and suddenly a vacant room was available. Despite her rudeness, the replacement room was very clean and comfortable. It's a lovely little hotel, but be warned that poor service may let it down.

The location was great, the facilities faultless, the breakfast fabulous, and the staff excellent. We had a lovely stay, though Google reviews influenced us not to have dinner there.
