Hôtel Le Sauvage

The restaurant was very good, though booking ahead is recommended. Breakfast was decent but the choices were limited, and the WiFi in my room was very weak. The hotel has a great atmosphere and comfortable rooms, with private parking, and sits in a unique spot near the citadel of Besançon.

The restaurant, which is run separately from the hotel, the spa, and the lovely surroundings helped make the stay somewhat better. But the room at the Sauvage Hotel was a real disappointment. There were stains on the sheets and a spider in the room, and the rain shower sprayed everywhere except where you stood. It all felt poorly maintained and not properly cleaned, which is unacceptable for a four-star hotel. The room didn't live up to the rest of the setting.

Mr Kamel was working reception in the afternoon and at night, and he was so friendly and nice. He told us about the hotel's history and features, and shared plenty of other things with us too. Thank you, Mr. Kamel 🎂

Parking is on the ground and was useful, though it has to be booked. The location is very central. We didn't use the spa, and the hotel's own restaurant was closed. The rooms are very average, with spacious bathrooms but beds that were really uncomfortable. The mattresses felt as old as the building. The hotel wants to feel upscale, but it doesn't quite get there. Service also depends a lot on who you meet: one person suggested places to visit and eat, while another seemed uninterested and offered only minimal service.
