Hôtel Les Charmilles

We booked one night and ended up staying two. The place was spotless, and the service was amazing. It's a short walk from the old city and has a ski chalet feel. In fall, there's a fire going in the chimney at breakfast.

Emilia and Cyril made us feel completely at home and went out of their way for us. We were two English motorcyclists, looking pretty rough after a long ride in the rain, and didn't seem like promising guests. The bedrooms were spacious, spotless, well equipped, and had extremely comfortable beds. Breakfast buffet was excellent, though the coffee machine didn't make the best coffee. The owners even washed and dried our riding clothes. First class all round. Just outside lovely Besse, the location is perfect for exploring this beautiful region. Thank you, Emilia and Cyril.

The self-service breakfast was very good, with as many hot drinks as we wanted, nice local produce, and homemade items like fruit salad, cake, and very nice jam. There's no restaurant at the hotel, but the village is about a 7-minute walk away and has plenty of options. We loved Fondues du Sancy, which has lots of choices, including vegetarian dishes, and a warm welcome. We were hiking the GR30, but the forecast looked poor and I was having leg trouble, so we chose a hotel instead of camping. The tourist office quickly confirmed there were rooms available. The owner showed us a lovely, modern room with a comfortable bed, thoughtful furnishings, and lovely views. Despite being on a D road, it was surprisingly quiet at night. Around 20:30, the owner brought ice for my leg while he was delivering something to another room. We got a discount for staying an extra night. Highly recommend this hotel.
