Le Vieux Beffroi

I liked the staff, bedroom, and food during my first stay on the way south, so I booked again for the return trip on 30/12. Things were fine until dinner. I’d never had choucroute before, so I asked what was in it. I usually enjoy all the ingredients and decided to order it. It arrived with a strong smell, but I tried a little cabbage, sausage, and cooked meat. Every part tasted awful, with a strong chemical flavor that made it inedible. The trainee waitress took the full plate away without asking anything. A more senior waitress then asked if I wanted dessert. I told her I couldn’t eat the meal and asked whether the chef had checked it. She took offense and shouted that I was trying to get out of paying for food I hadn’t eaten. Nobody checked whether something had gone wrong, and nobody seemed concerned that a returning customer was going to bed hungry. I’d been polite and friendly and tipped the staff generously during both stays, so I couldn’t believe that reaction. The owner wasn’t around when I left the restaurant or when I checked out the next morning. Avoid.
