Camping L’Ayguelade

I came by bike and they offer a special rate for bike tourists, which was great. Fanny was lovely and helpful, and the other campers were friendly and open-minded, so I felt at home. The campsite is beautiful too, with clean bathrooms right by the river and lake. Highly recommend for cyclists!

The little neighborhood donkeys were a fun bonus 🙃. We stayed for two nights and loved how peaceful and well looked after the place was, with a stream running through it. The owner welcomed us, showed us around and explained what was available. There’s a shared fridge and freezer, laundry and dryer, a bar, and even a small free library. The bathrooms were spotless, and there’s room for tents, campers and residential campers. You can tell the owners care about the place. We’d happily come back. It’s close to the river, too.

We stayed three days and found the campsite easygoing and comfortable. A small river winds through it, with plants and flowers along the banks, and the owners were kind and helpful. On Wednesday evenings there’s a local market with music. The lake, mountain spots and nearby villages are all close, making it a nice base for hiking and exploring while still having somewhere relaxing to return to.

We were really looking forward to our summer holiday and had booked a campsite, paying a 25% deposit. After we’d driven all the way from The Netherlands toward the Pyrenees, a trip that takes several days, an email arrived saying our reservation had been cancelled and the spot given to someone else. A horrible experience. Don’t go here.
