Villa Aquarelle

The owners made us feel very welcome, and the place is beautiful.

I usually avoid negative reviews and spent a long time deciding whether to post this, but I thought it might help someone else. We had booked a night at Villa Aquarelle through Booking.com. The owner then asked us to book directly to save money, but the discount offered was only €10. We arrived before him and waited. When he got there, he put us in the ground-floor apartment, although we had booked the upstairs one with a terrace and spa. It was mid-August. The apartment looked tidy, but was very dirty, and there was no air conditioning. When we asked for fans, he first brought one and then another, but both were dusty too. He said it wasn’t that hot that night. The listing had led us to expect a spa and air conditioning, and even showed a large swimming pool, though that’s inaccessible because it belongs to the year-round tenant. In the morning there was no hot water for a shower. Stranger still, the man’s belongings filled the closets. It’s a shame: he didn’t seem malicious, just unfamiliar with rental cleanliness standards. I felt like I was staying at an uncle’s place in a pinch. He was quite friendly, so I’ve still given two stars.

We stayed for one night at the start of our Corsica trip. The woman looking after the house gave us a warm welcome, explained how everything in the apartment worked, and shared tips about beautiful places in Corsica. That was really helpful, thank you! The apartment had everything we needed, and we even got to swim in the lovely pool.
