Cap Florival

The bathroom had a leak, one shutter was broken and wouldn’t close, and the apartment’s cleanliness was poor. We’d asked for a non-smoking unit, and although there was a sign on the door, opening it brought a strong stale tobacco smell. With nobody there, we had no one to tell about the problems. We left a note, not expecting much, and had no phone number or contact details, so we just had to manage with what was at hand. We came to Alsace for a peaceful weekend, but it didn’t work out. The place was far from quiet: we heard voices, footsteps with and without heels, running children, horns at odd hours, shouting, loud music at impossible times, and doors slamming. The partitions seemed like cardboard. The supposedly private, closed gate was never shut, and even residents from the houses across the street parked inside. The flyer also promised terraces or balconies in every apartment, but the one we booked had neither. It called the apartments luxurious, which I think needs a rethink, and said the kitchen had everything, including a coffee machine. Ours had nothing, not even a kettle. The claims in the flyer, it turns out, were mostly untrue. Next time we’ll choose a hotel with a concierge and security that can act if needed. We won’t come back or recommend this place.

It’s much too quiet, though it’s far from the city.
