We were told casually about caterpillars near the trees when we arrived, and the reception ladies were very nice and showed us where to put the tent. We pitched a couple of meters from any tree, went to a restaurant, and came back three hours later to find around 20 big hairy caterpillars on the tent. We moved in the middle of the night, but woke to caterpillars around the tent again. It was a horrible, really unpleasant night. In the morning we told reception, and they said it was hard to imagine how many there were, apologized, and suggested coming back in September when they’d be butterflies. Wow. The wildlife isn’t the issue, it’s the lack of honesty and the way they deal with feedback. Nobody is asking them to spray pesticides or get rid of nature. They should clearly explain how bad the caterpillar problem is so campers can decide for themselves. Downplaying a known issue to get a booking, then replying sarcastically when someone reports a bad experience, isn’t how a business should act. Don’t camp here.

If you don’t bring your own sheets, I wouldn’t stay here. The provided “bamboo fiber sheets” feel like plastic, and sleeping on them is like being on a tarp. We were charged €60 for sheets and towels for two nights, and some of the towels were only hand towels. That’s €30 a night just to rent the basics. They say you have to request them a week ahead, but the €60 charge still applies either way. The base price seems low, then they add unavoidable extras for things that should be provided. For four people over two nights, there was less than one roll of toilet paper. Need more? Pay extra. The air conditioning only runs at certain hours, which makes no sense in summer. Reception staff were rude and unhelpful too. With the hidden costs, poor service and plastic bedding, it ends up costing more than a regular hotel with much better service. They use non-transparent pricing to overcharge for basics.

The campsite is beautiful, with lovely pitches and enough shade, and the service was excellent. There’s public transport right outside, but take care with the timing in September: minibuses to Bonifacio and back run only four times a day, and the last one returns to the campsite at 18.05hrs. It might already be full when it arrives, or on the return trip, and there isn’t another bus. We called four taxi companies and tried to find one available. The fare is 40 euros to the top of the ciutadella or 30 euros to the marina. Marina parking costs 17,50 euro, while a bus ticket is 2 euros and can be paid on board.

We were disappointed by the standards for the price. There was very little room to park in front of our cabin, which made coming and going awkward, unlike at some of the other cabins. The pool was a nice extra, but being right by a busy road spoiled the peaceful feel. On the first evening we found ants in an unused room. Staff came quickly and disinfected it, but the chemical smell and treatment meant we couldn’t use that room that night. We’d paid for the full cabin, not just two usable rooms, and expected some compensation. More ants appeared later, dead but showing the product was still active. It was unpleasant and affected our comfort.

Most things here would have been fine, but the drinking water setup was unacceptable. They expect you to fill the campervan from a tap just 30 cm from the toilet dump. I asked reception if there was another place for drinking water and was told no. I used a small tap meant for filling bottles instead, but the facilities manager immediately confronted me and insisted I use the one beside the toilet emptying point. I told him I had a 5-month-old baby in the camper and that the tap was in the splash zone, but he kept insisting and got aggressive, trying to make me leave, despite eight other small taps nearby. Please judge for yourselves whether you’re comfortable filling drinking water beside a toilet dump splash zone and whether a “quick rinse” is enough to make it safe. I think it’s unacceptable. The campsite owner seems set on leaving this unresolved, so I may report it to the proper authorities for a sanitation check.
