Villa Victor Louis

The bed in “Odilon Redon 5” was superb, and the room was comfortable. The shower, though, had weak pressure and barely warm water. I can’t imagine dealing with that in winter, so it should be fixed ASAP. One tip: turning on the sink’s hot water makes the shower run a little warmer. Villa Victor Louis is a charming place in a quiet Bordeaux neighborhood. The receptionist was very helpful and offered to arrange nearby parking when we arrived. She also suggested street parking, which was free on weekends. Breakfast was fairly simple and had no hot dishes.

Massie May and Juliet at reception were the one redeeming part of the stay. We booked a suite, but it had no cutlery or kettle, and there was no tea or coffee included. They charged separately for tea and coffee, and the machine-made drinks tasted like tissue. The whole experience felt designed to extract money, with deceptive pricing, substandard service, and the appearance of luxury without much substance.

The staff were the best part of our stay: warm, welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable about Bordeaux. We’d gladly return to Villa Victor Louis, which felt more like a luxurious B&B than a hotel. The spacious, comfortable rooms are in a quiet street near shops, restaurants, and sights, with easy walks or tram rides around the city. Breakfast is served in a charming conservatory overlooking the back garden.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, but the condition of the hotel didn’t match its four-star prices. It felt like a two-star place: worn and unclean, with visibly dirty floors and carpets. The room had ripped bath towels, stained bathrobes, and decorative pillows that badly needed washing. I even found used contact lenses on the bathroom floor. With a proper scrub and some care, it could be great, but as it is, it leaves a lot to be desired.
