Chateau Le Val

We spent our last night in France here before catching the ferry to the UK. The historic place was beautifully furnished, and the English-speaking hosts were warm and keen to help. There’s lots of free parking, and the Chateau would work really well for family gatherings or celebrations.

We came back for a second stay and Uwe and Irene welcomed us warmly again. Chateau Val is around a 15 minute drive from the ferry terminal, and feels like a quiet refuge from busy downtown Cherbourg. If you want to stay in a real French Chateau, this is the place. Breakfast was home cooked, and afterwards we spent time in the garden, where there's a playground for the kids. The birdsong, breeze in the trees, and lack of traffic or city noise make it wonderfully peaceful. We'll be back.

The hosts were really hospitable, and breakfast each morning was fresh and made with local products. We had a lovely holiday at château Val, sleeping well in the quiet and relaxing setting. Our dog enjoyed playing in the garden, and there are great walks with a dog in the surrounding area.

We were a family of four, with two adults and two children, staying in a two bedroom apartment in early May 2022. It was on the second floor, up a spiral staircase in a turret, which the kids thought was straight out of a fairytale. The current owners had only been there a year, but had already done so much with the place. Sadly, I injured myself on arrival day and had to go to hospital by ambulance. My husband and children checked in without me. When Irene heard what had happened, she made them hot chocolate so my husband could take a moment to collect his thoughts. It was such a small gesture, but meant a lot. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic, hearty, local, and homemade. I can't recommend it highly enough, and hope we can return next year when we're in the area.
