Best Western Plus Le Moderne

We picked Caen as a base for visiting museums and other places around Normandy. The Moderne worked well for that, with Caen Castle and the Normandy museum nearby, plus plenty of shops and restaurants close by. Breakfast had a nice range each morning, and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

We could walk to just about everything from this hotel in central Caen, including the huge castle, the abbeys, and lots of restaurants. Our room was spotless and comfortable, with a design that felt different. The reception team were kind and so helpful. A lovely place to stay.

We were only there for one night in September, but the location made things easy: shopping, places to eat, and the castle are all close. The underground parking beneath the square is a one-minute walk around the corner. Maude at reception was especially helpful, friendly, efficient, and bilingual. She even helped us find a room at another Best Western for the next night. We'd come back.

The room felt small for a four-star place at this price, closer to the size of an Ibis Styles room. Even so, we'd gladly stay again. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable, the lighting good, and everything was clean. The shower had a full door, the lift was good, and the breakfast buffet was decent. Staff were accommodating and friendly, especially Sarah. Wi-Fi worked well, though it dropped out now and then. We've stayed in hundreds of hotels from one to five stars, and this one holds its own with the best.
