Htel du Soleil - Le Terminus

We got more than we expected from a 3-star hotel. I’m from South Africa and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived, despite the negative reviews. The staff were all friendly, and the rooms were stylishly decorated and clean. My advice is not to expect 5-star service when you book a 3-star hotel. Well done to all the staff at Le Terminus, you deserve more stars!

The breakfast had lots of drink choices. This is a real antique hotel, built in 1914, and the building will become a nursing home next year. The bathroom seemed quite new and the bedroom was pretty good. They provided a krups coffee machine and candy as complimentary items. The elevator was really antique too. It was my first time using an old elevator like that.

The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was a full buffet with good coffee. There was coffee in the room too. It’s a beautiful old hotel beside the Canal Midi and train station, about a 20-minute walk to the Old Castle. I’ll stay there again.

It’s a lovely-looking early 20th-century building, conveniently close to the train station, and the marble staircase is a nice touch. The rooms have high ceilings but are very small, and the bed was quite firm. WiFi wasn’t really free: you have to create an account and log in, then your connection is throttled unless you pay extra. It’s billed as a 4-star hotel, but there was no room service, minibar, or fridge. There was a free nespessro machine to use, though. Being near the station is convenient, especially if you’re willing to walk about 30 minutes to the old city, but there are probably nicer places to stay.
