Mercure Carcassonne la Cite Hotel

I’d recommend staying here for the excellent rooms, friendly reception staff, and handy location for the citadel. Dinner was another matter. The starter was nice, and the vegetables with my main were very well cooked, but the veal was bland and tough as old boots. The cheese course was pretty standard, and the serving staff were very inattentive. I was really disappointed I’d stayed for dinner, and wouldn’t recommend eating there.

The staff were so friendly, the beds comfortable, and the shower was great. The rooms were gorgeous, too. It’s an easy walk into town and very close to Carcassonne’s main attraction. I absolutely loved this hotel and couldn’t fault it. Super impressed.

The best thing about this hotel is the location, just a few minutes on foot from the castle entrance. The room and breakfast were OK, and most of the staff were friendly. It’s an ageing hotel, though, and I thought the price was too high for the standard. We arrived in the evening and couldn’t park at the hotel, so had to use parking a few hundred metres away.

We were glad to have a pool during the hot weather, and there’s a bar beside it. A few more sun loungers would have helped, but that was my only complaint. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a nice bathroom. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. They pointed us to a night tour of the castle, which we booked on their advice and thought was amazing, and they also suggested local restaurants and gave us great directions into the city. The hotel’s in a good spot, a short walk from the centre of Carcassonne. I’d highly recommend it.
