Hotel Restaurant L'Escapade

The condition, comfort, and price all factored into this being the second-worst place I've stayed, out of my top three worst. It was horrible, and I really wish I hadn't stayed.

We didn't stay at the hotel, so this is just about the restaurant. The dining room has plenty of character and feels welcoming, and our waiter was friendly and helpful. His English was decent, too. We chose the reasonably priced set menus from the short menu, which we took as a good sign. The chef clearly knows what he's doing. My starter was a delicious meat pastry with a simple salad and an amazing dressing. Then came a lovely duck breast fillet, crispy skin and all, with creamy potato gratin and well-seasoned vegetables. I finished with a mouthwatering lemon pastry and crème légère. We've been in France for 10 days so far, and all three courses were among the best meals I've had on this holiday. The negative Google reviews about "Escapade" mostly concern the hotel, so they shouldn't put you off trying the restaurant. You'd miss an excellent dinner.

The fresh bread at breakfast was the one thing that redeemed the food. The meal itself wasn't good, and the house wine was worse. The room was tiny and cheaply furnished, with a sweaty feet smell and a carpet in worse shape than the one in my garage. The bathroom was so small and dirty that I couldn't shut the door while sitting on the loo. This was the worst hotel I've stayed in outside Asia.

Dinner was fantastic, the food was delicious and the service was great. He checked in to ask how we liked everything and whether we'd like dessert or coffee.
