Camping Frédéric Mistral

We got there at 9pm, a day before our booking, and they welcomed us in for an extra night. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the amenities seem to improve every time I visit. There’s now a pizzeria open in the evenings, which I’m looking forward to trying. The area is beautiful, of course.

It’s just a few minutes’ walk into town. The site is small and friendly, with clean showers and loos and plenty of hot water. The pool looks great, though I haven’t tried it yet. The pizza restaurant is only open on Thursdays now that it’s out of summer season.

The pitches are good, with no stones or other annoyances, and the town center is only a two-minute walk away. I’ve stayed here for seven years, though, and the place has lost its charm for me over time. The owner used to be friendly and funny, but now he seems increasingly grumpy. It’s best not to ask him questions, and he often makes rude comments about guests like me to, I assume, his mother and grandmother. That’s disappointing and makes things uncomfortable. I remember the early years fondly, when joking and teasing each other was fun. The sanitary conditions have also gone downhill a lot. Some guests are clearly careless, but the cleaning doesn’t seem to happen regularly or properly either. For much of my stay, the small bins in the washrooms had smelly food in them.

The town is just a two-minute walk away, with bars and restaurants, and this is a lovely spot in an amazing part of France. I’ve stayed here twice a year for over 10 years and find it perfect. The washrooms are brand new and very clean, and there are permanent tents and bungalows as well as pitches for campers, caravans, and tents. The night lighting is subdued and just right, and the prices are very reasonable. Arnaud and his family are friendly and helpful, and they always have ice-cold beer in the fridge, much appreciated after a hard day of motorcycling. You can also get breakfast and coffee if you want. A little spot of heaven in the Alps.
