The owner welcomed us and showed us to our cabin, and there’s plenty to do around the campsite, from swimming and table tennis to volleyball. We liked the drinks at the little marquee bar, especially the homemade vodka shots. We didn’t try the food. There’s also an electric car charging point. The site has pitches for tents and vans, luxury tents, and new cabins. I hadn’t noticed that bedding and towels cost an extra 16€, and our dog was 20€, so it made our one-night stay quite pricey. That would feel different over a longer visit.

There are some lovely walks starting right from the campsite, and Caylus is an easy walk away, though the town is hilly if you have limited mobility. It’s a quiet place that dates back to the 13th century, with two bakeries and a Casino supermarket for supplies. La Bonnette is a relatively small, peaceful site. The owner welcomed me and my dog warmly and let me pick a pitch. The facilities were very clean, and the lighting was subtle in the evening, with sensors adding light near the sanitary blocks. I ate twice at the little marquee restaurant, and both the food and service were faultless. It’s a shame smoking is allowed for diners, though that’s a minor gripe. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. If you want a quiet stay, this is a great fit.

Caylus is only a few minutes away on foot, with several good quality bars and restaurants at reasonable prices. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon. The campsite had a relaxed, friendly feel, with plenty of repeat visitors. I should mention that I know the owner, although this was my first stay here. Our pitch was spacious, mostly shaded by trees, and hedged on two sides. There’s a play area with a trampoline and a slide and climbing frame. A pool is there too, but we didn’t use it because of the rain. The bathrooms and washing areas were clean. I was surprised, though, that there were so few facilities for changing or bathing babies.

We spent five nights here in our tent and were really glad we found it. It’s a small site, so it’s easy to enjoy the quiet in Caylus, and the plants provide plenty of shady spots around the pitches, especially in summer. The host was friendly and helpful, and spoke German as well. The whole place was exceptionally clean and tidy, including the bathrooms, which had warm water. There’s a small pool, and things like table tennis and badminton to play, plus a restaurant. I’d definitely recommend it.

The restaurant food was great, the grounds are lovely, and the staff were always friendly. We stayed in a mobile home that was getting old and could use some maintenance, but it was still a really nice place to stay. I’d go again, 9/10.
