Chateau Terre Blanche

The layout made it easy for our group to spend time together or find a quiet spot alone. I hosted a private event for 12 guests at the château for a week in June, and the size of the property worked perfectly. The upgraded en-suite bedrooms and all the sitting rooms gave everyone plenty of space. Set in the South of France, it has beautiful private gardens, and the village and nearby villages are all charming and picturesque. The meals were one of the main things I cared about, and the chefs Eve recommended, Barbara and Serge, came up with varied, exceptional menus. They were some of the highlights of the week. Before the event, I worked closely with House Manager Eve. She was professional, attentive to details, quick to respond, resourceful, and clearly committed to making everything go well. When she couldn’t meet a specific request directly, she suggested alternatives. From the minute we arrived, Eve’s warmth and dedication helped us feel at home. That care is part of what makes the property special. It’s one of the best places I’ve ever rented, and the week there was truly memorable.

The grounds and pool were exceptional, and Eve, the property manager, was helpful with everything. The village felt warm and welcoming, right down to the friendly grocery clerks. We also enjoyed easy day trips to nearby towns and villages. My sister-in-law Gail Warner (see review from 09/2021!) told us we MUST go to Chateau Terre Blanche for my in-laws’ 60th wedding anniversary. She was right. In the charming village of Chalabre, this gorgeous chateau went beyond our already high expectations. The rooms combined old-world charm with luxurious comfort. We’re already dreaming about coming back. If you want a holiday in the French countryside, look no further!

We had lunches on the terrace with food from local markets, lazy afternoons in the garden or by the pool, and competitive pétanque games with local wine before dinner. The village itself was lovely to stroll through, and drives to Carcassonne, Montségur and Mirepoix were easy, with lovely countryside along the way. Château Terre Blanche in Chalabre is right in a charming medieval village, just a short walk from the local patisserie and Carrefour. Once inside, the soaring ceilings and beautiful traditional details made it feel like a secluded palace, while the beds and en-suites had all the 21st century comfort we wanted. We’re so grateful to our hosts for restoring this historic place and sharing it. It’s an easy drive from Toulouse, and our stay went far beyond what we expected. We’re planning to return as soon as we can!

We spent a really enjoyable week with friends, and the location made it easy to explore. Chalabre is a gorgeous village, with everything within walking distance, including bike hire and a rail trail. The Niaux cave paintings were a highlight. The chateau is impressive, with huge, beautifully decorated rooms, big bedrooms and en-suites, and luxurious beds. There’s a lovely terrace, garden and pool, with plenty of places to relax over an afternoon drink. What more could you want?!
