Domaine de la Ferme du Bourdil

The welcome was good, and after the sauna I felt great, but a few things made my one-night stay disappointing. I booked the weekend at the gîte for my boyfriend and me with a Smartbox voucher plus some of my own money, hoping to make it really special for him. It had rained and stormed the day before, and it was cold in the morning. There wasn’t enough heating, and I would have liked a remote control so I could turn it up. The pool wasn’t heated, as the advertisement said, and at 21 degrees Celsius it was too cold for me to swim with him as planned. There also wasn’t enough toilet paper, and we had no towels to dry off with.

The rental was expensive for what it offered, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The apartment could be lovely if it were maintained better, but with 9 degrees outside there was no heating, which was unheard of. There was nowhere to dry clothes in the rain, the taps were covered in limescale, and frozen bread every morning was too much.

I’m reposting my review so potential customers can see it. I hope it changes their minds about staying here. Why was my review deleted after months? Take some responsibility. If zero stars were an option, that’s what I’d give. We used a Smartbox to book a night in a guesthouse, but the stay didn’t match the offer. We’d reserved a double bed and, without being told or asked, were put in a room with two singles. Another couple extended their stay, so we ended up in the host’s private quarters, which aren’t usually rented out. The room we booked was supposed to have air conditioning, but there was none. It was incredibly hot in the high temperatures. We insisted on at least getting a fan, but were given a poor space heater instead. Photo attached. Breakfast was meant to be served in the morning, but it was delivered the night before, with things like open jam and opened milk. That affected the quality and comfort of the service. Photo attached. These issues didn’t conform to the Smartbox description and clearly affected our experience. We also had to insist on getting a key to lock our accommodation. The host refused, saying “it would be pointless, since no one was there.”

A great place to unwind. The cottage was clean, warm and welcoming, and the pool was clean, pleasantly warm, and very nice to use. Breakfast came in a wicker basket the night before. The huge garden has breathtaking views over the hills. Benoît is a history buff and gave us plenty of tips on local activities and places to visit. A must-see!
