Hotel Première Classe Chalon Sur Saone

Getting to the highway is easy, and the city centre is only a short drive away, so this worked well as a stopover or for a couple of nights. We found the stay comfortable and good value. Our room was clean and practical, with what we needed for a good night’s sleep. Staff were welcoming, and check-in and check-out were quick. Breakfast had a decent choice, including fresh bread, pastries and coffee.

For an overnight stop while travelling from southern France, it was just right. The hotel was quiet and very clean. The room wasn’t large, but it had everything I needed. Breakfast was very good, though it runs only until 9 am.

The whole thing was a shambles, and I’m glad I won’t have to go back. I’d rather sleep in a tent in the car park. We were on a coach trip, and staff said they weren’t equipped to host coaches, so why accept bookings for two of them? Our driver had called ahead to say we’d arrive around 6 pm and eat at 7, but another coach was dining when we got there, and we were told to wait until 9. Staff were rude and wouldn’t admit they were wrong. Drinks were expensive, the food wasn’t pleasant, and the breakfast fruit salad still had grape stalks in it. The room was okay, and the shower was great, but the carpet had seen better days. The place felt unprofessional.

A nice, cheap place to get a good night’s rest on the road. It splits the drive from home in southern France to my family in Eastern Germany perfectly in half.
