The building and its hamlet are beautiful, and the food is superb. You pay for quality, but it really isn’t expensive for the kind of proper dining-out experience that feels like a special occasion. French food and wine at their best. I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you don’t enjoy it, the problem isn’t the restaurant or the setting.

The room looked out over autumn-colored mountains and the little garden, with a stream running by. Such a peaceful, picturesque view. The auberge is in the charming village of Chanteuges, around 5-10 minutes by car from Langeac and 15-20 from Le Puy en Velay. We got a warm, helpful service, a good breakfast, and generous dishes that were nicely put together. Hiking trails start about 500m away. Highly recommended!

We had a superb stay. The rooms are modern, the food is good traditional fare, and the welcome was warm. The setting is stunning too, right below the hill with its ancient church and monastery, with a lovely view of the river.
