The restaurant was closed, even though it was the reason we booked. There was a car park, but it was full when we arrived in the middle of the afternoon.

We left feeling sad and disappointed after what was supposed to be a Valentine's Day meal at a place with a good reputation. Maybe we were the wrong customers at the wrong time, with the special menu being served. My wife has a serious digestive condition, and I had already explained her dietary restrictions. Despite assurances, her monkfish came cooked in cream, with potato pancakes made with butter. Nobody seemed to be listening, and service took 20 minutes. No one came over to ask what was going on.

We hadn't booked and showed up as a group of eight, but were warmly welcomed. The service was lovely, and the meal was delicious. The salmon was cooked beautifully and the desserts were divine. A little gem, well worth stopping for.

That rum baba still has me reeling! This is the kind of restaurant they used to make, with a real chef and soul, and food that brings our grandmothers' cooking to mind. Huge congratulations!
