La Marjolaine - Demeure d'Hôtes

I was surprised by how peaceful it was. My clean, comfortable room looked out over the gardens, with birdsong and blackbirds calling outside. The only small snag was working out how to get the room key at first, but once I figured it out, I couldn’t forget it. I recommend this place.

I liked the style of the place, somewhere between a hotel and a bed and breakfast, and the key and code setup makes it easy to arrive when you want. I got there at 4 pm as agreed, and the instructions came by WhatsApp. But the room was freezing when I walked in. There was an air conditioner but no remote, and when I called, they said it was controlled remotely. It did heat the room, but I couldn’t change the temperature or turn it off myself, so I had to message them. I ended up sleeping with it running all night, which was awful. The room was clean and everything was new, but there was nothing special about it. Breakfast was okay, though the atmosphere wasn’t friendly. A young woman who barely spoke French was helpful. I’m used to bed and breakfasts, and this didn’t feel like one to me. I’d be better off at a hotel. I was a bit disappointed by the concept.

We stayed one night at La Marjolaine on our way from Paris. The property has plenty of parking, and the self check-in was very well organized, with all the instructions sent via WhatsApp. The beautiful manor house made a real impression when we arrived, and the top-floor apartment brought another "wow" when we stepped inside. It has two bedrooms with excellent, very comfortable beds, plus a spacious living room with a comfortable sofa. The kitchen is brand new and very well equipped. The surroundings are peaceful, and everything has been tastefully renovated. We’ll be back!

The hotel was a pleasant surprise near the centre of Châteauroux. The room was spacious, clean, and well equipped, and the place felt very peaceful with security clearly a priority. The TV seemed a bit small for the room, though. The parking gate stays open 24/7 and needs better security.
