The food was the highlight, especially the excellent four-course dinners, with two savoyade evenings each week. We stayed for a week of skiing with Crystal holidays. The welcome was warm, the staff friendly, and the rooms clean and comfortable. There’s a good-sized boot room, and the ski bus stops right outside.

The dinners were excellent and generous, while breakfast was simple but had everything we needed. Our room and bathroom were a little dated, though clean and pleasant. The chalet has Savoyard charm right in the heart of Châtel, and we had a wonderful stay. The welcome was lovely and warm, all the staff were friendly and helpful, and the owners were delightful. Everyone made sure we were comfortable.

Breakfast could have been much better. The same toppings came around every four days, with no fruit or eggs, and only pre-packaged sausage. Luckily, the town had an open baker and butcher. We also found the little street-side bistro wonderfully delicious, and its staff were friendly. The hotel itself was clean, in a lovely location, and the beds were comfortable. It was very quiet off-season, though I can imagine it being charming in winter. It would be nice if reception spoke more than French.

Finding free parking in Chatel in winter seems impossible, but the hotel let us park without charge and leave the car in their lot after checkout. That alone earns the full five stars from me. The rooms are beautiful too, and we had a wonderful visit. My husband and I stayed just one night, and felt the warm hospitality from the moment we arrived until we left.
