When the winter ferry to Ireland gets cancelled, which happens a lot, this will be my place to stay in Cherbourg. We spent two nights here and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. It’s beside the main food street, mostly takeaways, and there’s free parking nearby by the port. For two people we paid €166 for the two nights, and it was worth every cent. Breakfast was excellent, with bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, continental options, plenty of bread and pastries, and great coffee. Excellent hotel and staff!

The room was clean and fine for a short stay, and the hotel sits among restaurants on the walking street, close to the harbour. The maid cleaned the room every second day. There’s private parking for 9€ per day, though free parking is available across the road. I gave it 3 stars because there was no AC, and summer gets hot. Opening the window let in quite a lot of road noise. Apart from that, everything was good.

There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and the staff were helpful and spoke English. As a foot passenger from the ferry, I found the walk manageable. The rooms were clean and fresh, and one had a coffee machine. I liked opening the window on Sunday and hearing the church bells. I’d happily come back.

The location is right in the middle of downtown, and breakfast has a wide choice. Rooms are spacious, and the service was excellent throughout. The only real snag was how warm our room got. A thermostat would have been a great addition so we could set the temperature ourselves.

Secure parking was very useful, and the room was clean, though we found it very small. The area didn’t seem the nicest, but I don’t know whether that’s typical of the port. We did find better restaurants and bars a short walk away. There was quite a bit of noise late at night from people outside. It was OK, but I probably wouldn’t stay again. I’m sure there are better hotels in a nicer spot.
