We stopped here for a drink after hiking at Piton des Nieges. There are little kiosks where you can get food and drinks, and the service was good. The man was so kind and smiling. Toilets are nearby, and there’s plenty of parking.

There are a few restaurants here where you can sit down for lunch, and benches along one side are handy for resting or eating a sandwich. It’s a beautiful place in the Cirque de Cilaos. Just bear in mind that the drive from Saint-Louis to Cilaos is a difficult one.

We found it peaceful when we visited, a nice place to wander around the pond. There are spots to grab something to eat or drink too. If you’re nearby and want to relax, I’d recommend a stop.

You can’t swim in this pond, but you can hire pedal boats or little boats. It’s a lovely outing with family around the Mare à Joncs, and a must-see while staying in the Cirque de Cilaos.
