Olatika - Gite Des Cascades

The cool evenings were a little brisk, but that’s what you get at this altitude :-) For our group break between hikes, the place worked very well. There were eight of us, with the parents in double rooms and the kids in the large room with bunk beds. The sheets, pillows, duvets, and beds were all good, and we slept well. Having several showers and toilets was especially useful with that many people.

Clean and practical, and close to the hiking trails. The bedrooms had no heating, though, which made a stay during the southern winter a lot less comfortable.

Breakfast was a treat, especially the homemade jams and brioches, and the food was delicious. We were greeted so warmly at Gîte des Cascades. The beds were comfortable too. Playing pétanque and volleyball in the morning with mountains all around was lovely. I highly recommend it.

The gîte was very clean and good value, right below the rampart. When there’s water in the falls, you can see them from there. Finding it takes a bit of patience: coming out of the forest from Cilaos, take the first left. It looks like you’re heading into a chicken coop, but keep going and turn right at the stadium.
