RCN Camping La ferme du Latois

We stayed for a week on a campervan pitch with our two sons, aged 4 and 5. The pitches are lovely, and the site itself is fantastic, rural and picturesque. The staff were lovely and very helpful too. My only gripe is that, despite learning French because we were in France, this felt very much like a Dutch site, almost as if we were in the Netherlands. I love the Dutch, but most of the children's activities were aimed at Dutch kids and conducted in Dutch. My youngest really tried to join in, but the staff running the activities often defaulted to Dutch since most children were Dutch, leaving our kids out. For that reason alone, I wouldn't come back.

We visited at the end of the season, so it was quieter, which we liked. Our cabin was lovely, and the campsite is spacious with lots of types of accommodation. A family member stayed in an awesome safari tent. There are cycling routes nearby, plus a good restaurant and bar on site. The kids loved the fun pool slides. Staff were friendly and spoke multiple languages. There's also a lake within walking distance where you can rent canoes and pedalos.

There are four facility blocks, though not all are fully open out of season. Lighting isn't great in every block, and one had showers that were almost scaldingly hot. The pitches are marked out and generous, but the grass isn't cut on all of them. In early May, the site was a peaceful haven. Bread is available every morning from 09.00, and the restaurant is open five nights a week. Lac du Jaunay is about 1km away, and the walk to and around it can be as long or short as you like. There are also cycling routes along fairly quiet lanes, plus some off-road paths around the lake and nearby.

A great campsite, quiet and friendly, with a lovely layout and a family-friendly feel. The pitches are large, in a mature setting with hedges and lots of different trees. There are two fishing lakes on site, which help keep the biting insects down. Walking and cycling paths start at the site, and the coast is only a 20-minute drive away.
