The location is handy, right in central Cognac, with the well known cognac houses within walking distance. Staff were kind and helpful, and our room was clean and tidy. Breakfast had croissants, fresh juices, and decent coffee. I'd add grains and seeds as yoghurt toppings to the buffet. The small pool area and hammam are there, but don't expect too much from them. Still, a very pleasant hotel and one I'd recommend for a Cognac stay.

Morgane welcomed us at the Hotel de France Cognac and was delightful, efficient, and very capable. Gary was exceptional too, and they arranged parking for our bikes. The breakfast was beautiful, a real bonus. I'd highly recommend staying here.

The staff and location made this a great break. The hotel bar staff were especially good: one of them set up a spontaneous cognac tasting and knew a lot about the local, smaller suppliers she introduced us to. The rooms were fairly basic, and some of the throws were stained, so the upholstery, throws, and cushions could use an upgrade. The bathrooms were clean but could do with modernising. I'd come back.

We were lucky to have umbrellas to borrow when it rained for most of our three days in Cognac. There are several good restaurants a short walk away, including La Maison, which is Michelin recommended. The hotel itself is lovely, with parking available, a nicely appointed and very quiet room, and buffet breakfast served in the restaurant. It's on one of the main squares, with the statue of King Francoise, and a ten minute walk from the museums and Cognac houses. One tip: arrange tours in advance. There's generally just one English tour a day, and the houses offer them in the afternoon, so fitting in two visits on the same day is difficult. We toured Hennessy and really enjoyed it.

The rooms were great and breakfast was delicious. It's right in the middle of Cognac, so everywhere is within walking distance.
