Hostellerie La Montagne

This is only about the restaurant. My family and I went for Sunday lunch, excited to try a Michelin-starred place, but the meal was a huge disappointment. One amuse-bouche had a hair in it, and another contained shrimp that seemed clearly spoiled. When I sent them back, I was told I was the one in the wrong. Service was inattentive and extremely slow, with more than an hour's wait for starters that were nothing special. For a starter costing 40€ or more, the food lacked care, seasoning, and any wow factor. I found the experience insulting, given the star and the high prices for such mediocre food.

There’s a lot that needs work here. We were disappointed with the evening and expected much more from a one-star restaurant. The food looked good but tasted bland, with no real flavour or excitement. Maybe the chef wasn't there that night, but the place was definitely understaffed: just two people running the front of house, though they did a great job. The sommelier and an energetic, friendly woman helped save the evening. The wine list needs improving too, with little Champagne variety and nearly all the Burgundy from Louis Jadot. Prices were far too high.

We stayed at the hotel and ate at the restaurant. The dinner was great, and the sommelier picked three different champagnes for us, all good choices. A very nice place.

The setting is beautiful, and both the food and service were excellent. For what you get, it’s actually pretty inexpensive. I know plenty of places that would charge much more for this quality of food and service.
