The food we did get right was good, but the rest of the experience was awful. Our order came out wrong, and they insisted we were mistaken, even though they were the ones who'd got it wrong. There was so much sighing, grumbling, and groaning. They seemed to treat customers like a hassle, regardless of where we came from or what language we spoke. If you don't want to deal with visitors, don't work in a cafe in a town that attracts them.

After finishing the Le Puy - Conques walk, we stopped for lunch and a few beers with some fellow pilgrims. The local dishes were good, and the service was excellent.

The salad took up half the plate, which felt pretty stingy, and the price left us very disappointed. €7 for either a fruit salad or crème brûlée? Honestly, it felt like a tourist trap. For €17, I expected the Auvergne region's aligot, but what we got was clearly mashed potatoes instead. I highly recommend finding a good buron, where they don't use potato flakes and grated cheese like this one. Those ingredients add no flavor, either.

There weren't many choices on the menu, but the food was really good. We tried both main courses on offer: grilled trout with salad, risotto, and vegetable soufflé, plus chorizo with aligot sauce and salad. For dessert we had crème brûlée and walnut sponge cake with cream, and everything was delicious. The service was attentive and very friendly. It was a big plus that they spoke English. Highly recommended!
