Our GITE looked out over the River Lot, and we were pleasantly upgraded to it for our week-long stay. It was peaceful, quiet, and very comfortable. The garden was full of flowers, and sitting there listening to birdsong and the river was lovely. Virgine and Francois Xavier work hard to make the B& B feel relaxing and welcoming, like a home away from home. We hope we can return one day, God willing. Virgine, thanks for sharing your garden strawberries and local cherries with us!

We spent five nights in the tour (tower) suite overlooking the Lot during lovely fall weather. This was a three-week trip, and Manoir des Pelies was our favorite stop. The international breakfasts were a highlight: we met a German couple, an Irish couple, a French couple, and other Americans, made friends, and even talked a little politics. Getting there takes effort, but it was worth it. We loved Conques and had the best French omelet at a little cafe facing the 11th-century St Foy cathedral. Rue Charlemagne leads down to the Roman bridge, though the climb back is serious. Figeac, about an hour away, has a fabulous Saturday market. Our favorite town was Belcastle, with picturesque streets winding up to its chateau. Several of the Most Beautiful Villages of France are within an hour, and closer by, don't miss Le Fel.
