La Verria Re

The location is wonderfully idyllic, surrounded by vineyards and far enough out that you’ll need GPS. Head to Crestet first, then follow the signs along a narrow paved road for 3km to the hotel. We stayed one night and wished we’d booked more. The views are amazing, and the outdoor seating areas are extensive. There’s also an outdoor BBQ that looked great for a big cookout if arranged in advance. Our room was clean and the bedding comfortable. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and dinner and breakfast were both great. It could work beautifully for a small wedding or a retreat with friends. The property is also attached to the winery Chêne Bleu. We ran out of time to arrange a wine tasting, but would have liked to do one. We’d definitely stay again.

We left with such lovely memories of this special place. The staff made the stay: even with a skeleton crew of just 2-3 people near the end of the season, everything ran efficiently and discreetly. Katia the house manager looked after us so well, with personal but unobtrusive service. Guillaume the chef made wonderful meals from seasonal produce grown on the estate, and Manon put out a tasty breakfast every morning. Ana gave us an informative winery tour, showed us where everything on the estate was grown, introduced us to all their wines, and shared the stories behind them. The estate feels like it works alongside Nature. They avoid harmful pesticides and experiment with compounds produced by bees to keep pests away. This tucked-away mountain property is also somehow at the forefront of agricultural innovation. The wines are delicious, made in the most modern facility we’d ever seen, with every winemaking innovation built into the process, including gravity-fed tanks and automatic temperature-controlled fermentation. Our room looked medieval, but had every modern convenience and luxury we could want: a super-comfy bed, cozy sheets, a hot shower with great pressure, and fluffy towels. It had everything and more. If you get the chance, stay a while. It’s unforgettable, and you may leave feeling inspired to live in greater harmony.

We spent our honeymoon at La Verrière, a memorable hideaway in the hills behind Crestet that feels properly remote. The room had lovely antique furnishings, was charming and very comfortable, and the staff were friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We also enjoyed the swimming pool and jacuzzi, plus a great breakfast with handmade local produce. A really special stay, and one we’d thoroughly recommend.

The staff are really friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely. There’s also a beautiful infinity pool.
