La Maison Du Bien Être

There’s clearly been care and effort put into the place, so three stars may be a little generous, but I can see they tried to make the best of it. When we arrived around eight in the evening, the guests downstairs seemed surprised that we’d be sharing their common area. The upstairs sleeping area was noisy, really the whole house was, and we could hear the downstairs neighbors clearly. They were up early, too. In the morning, the fuses blew because of the dishwasher, oven, and coffee maker. That didn’t exactly surprise me. Breakfast by candlelight was atmospheric, though the sausage rolls were lukewarm.

The village doesn’t have much besides a church, and the shops are 15-20km away in other small towns. Inside, the furnishings are cozy, but the online listing makes the place sound a bit better than it is. In winter the heating feels inadequate, with just one electric heater on the wall. And there’s a lamp in the middle of the room that everyone over 1.50m tall kept bumping their heads on during the stay.

The beds were really good, but the shower was poor and the wifi was unusable. It was OK for a stopover, though there was no access to the garden or the jacuzzi.

Everything was perfect. The owner was friendly and easy to reach.
