Résidence Des Ducs

Hotel Des Ducs made a much better impression than I expected for our overnight stop on the way from Annacy to Paris. We stayed in an off-site room, about two blocks from the hotel, in a quiet area near the palace courtyard. It was a great location, with nightlife and restaurants all around. The room was spotless, with a wonderful bed, a mini fridge, and both a coffee maker and espresso machine. The hotel has a small indoor garage that fits around six or seven cars, and we got a space. We were in the Chambertin apartment, which was lovely. I wanted a washing machine, and the place also had a full kitchen, an espresso machine, plenty of towels, a comfortable bed, and a nice table for two. We had breakfast downstairs the first morning, and it was good, but having the kitchen meant we could make our own on other days. Check-in was easy, and the front desk staff were very helpful. The apartment is in the old town, close to everything, and about a 15-minute walk from the main station. I'd absolutely recommend Hotel des Ducs in Dijon.

The Pommard apartment had a nice-sized terrace, though we had to clean the table and chairs before using them. Inside, it was very clean, and the espresso machine was filled with beans when we arrived and topped up again after three days. Noise was the main problem. The door to the hall didn't block sound well and was right beside the bed, so we heard everyone coming in from the lobby and closing their doors. The elevator is tiny, so family groups sometimes took the wooden stairs up four floors, which could be loud. Since it's a renovated old building, sound from people above and below carries easily. Earplugs might be needed. There also weren't enough outlets by the bed. Some of the front desk staff could have been more attentive. At times they didn't look up or say bonjour when we came into the lobby. One man didn't speak to us at all during our seven-day stay, though the women were mostly friendly.

The bed was comfortable, the rooms were a good size, and the bathroom facilities were excellent. The hotel is in a superb spot, just minutes from central Dijon and ideal for the Musée des Beaux Arts. A reading chair would have made the room even better, but it was a lovely stay.
