Gîte Le Hissala

We booked Gite Le Hissala in Eguisheim, Alsace, for December 11th to 13th, 2025. It was an absolute disaster. Two months before the trip, the accommodation pushed us to book at least five nights/days, but we didn’t change our booking because we already had confirmation for two nights/three days. We had arranged and confirmed a check-in time, but nobody was there when we arrived. We couldn’t reach them by phone. After about 30 minutes, someone finally showed up and immediately told us the promised parking space didn’t exist, so we’d have to find a side street. They wanted €295 plus a €300 cash deposit. Inside, we had to sort out the heating and radiators ourselves, and some still didn’t work. The TV was faulty, the internet was awful, and there was no shampoo or shower gel. The spiral staircase was incredibly steep, running from the bottom to the entrance and living area, then up three floors: kitchen on the first, small bedroom, toilet, and shower on the second, and a large, freezing bedroom on the third. When it was time to leave, we had to wait 20 minutes despite having agreed on a time. They also asked for another 50-150 euros in cash for cleaning. After a heated argument and a threat to call the police, they accepted 50 euros. And to top it off, the house has ghosts that are sadly still there!
