I booked two nights, but left first thing in the morning and moved to a nearby hotel for the second. I felt cold, distressed, and alarmed in this awful place, and plan to seek compensation and report it to the authorities to protect other travelers. The apartment was the last straw. The general condition was below camping standards, the heating didn’t work apart from in the bathroom, and everything seemed dirty and long neglected. Food was stuck to the cutlery and plates. The kettle had so much scale that its water looked like soup. The building was beside a road and the apartment had no insulation, so I heard cars and lorries constantly. There was even a spider web on the bathroom mirror. Getting there was bad enough. The French woman in charge didn’t speak English. When I said I’d booked an apartment, she started shouting “no booking, no booking” and waving her hands. She wouldn’t look at my confirmation. I pointed out a couple in the garden who might translate, but she blocked me from going over. Luckily they’d noticed and the man came to help. I explained the situation to him while she kept shouting, and he translated that I’d paid and could show my credit card statement. She still wouldn’t accept that I had a booking. Eventually she went to her office and came back with a copy of my confirmation. She snapped “sorry” and that was all. I decided to stay anyway, which was crazy.
