L'Hôtel des Bords de l'Ill

Room 21 was in a really poor state. The sink was pulling away from the wall, the mattresses felt spongy, and water from the leaking shower door covered the bathroom floor, even though the bottom had gaffer tape on it. The decor was shabby and old. It looks like one wing has been renovated while the other half is still grotty. We complained and got a price reduction, but rooms this bad shouldn’t be rented out.

We were travelling as a family of five and had no problems. The hotel had newly outfitted rooms that were spotless, with modern features like walk-in showers and plenty of thoughtfully planned closet space. Some rooms connect, which works for families. Breakfast in the morning was a good continental spread. The reception even booked us a table at the friendly bar-restaurant across the road, serving French-German food at average prices, since we were running late. There’s also a nice walk into the village if you have time and energy. It’s a good hotel in a surprisingly nice little town, close to the motorway near Strassbourg, and a much better option than the chain places tucked away on industrial sites.

The room was very small, and the photos made it look better than it really was. The shower was okay, and the beds were small but comfortable. On arrival, though, the room smelled horrible, and breakfast was really poor. It wasn’t too bad apart from that.

Disgusting, don’t stay here. The room was dated and shabby, and the sink was hanging off the wall. I was worried it would come crashing down on my feet when I used it. The shower screen had been crudely taped at the bottom, but water still leaked all over the bathroom floor. They shouldn’t have let this room. Money for old rope comes to mind!
