Castel de la Terrasse

Estelle made us feel so welcome. She was kind, looked after us, and knew the area well, helping us make the most of our stay. Each morning started with a superb breakfast made from fresh local produce, and the service was first class. The room was comfortable and well equipped. The house has a fascinating history, and its quiet setting is hard to believe given it's just a stone's throw from the beaches, restaurants and lovely gardens. So glad we stayed.

We spent four nights there in April, and it spoiled the whole stay. The place looks nice, but the service was terrible. We had to haul our own luggage up three flights of stairs. We were told we couldn't use the lobby sofas or talk anywhere in the building after 10 pm, even in our room. I left a brand new pair of Nike Sneakers worth over $200 by the bed. When I called the next day, they said nothing had been found. After I pressed the issue, the woman admitted they were there but said she had thrown them in the garbage because they were dirty, and claimed the garbage had already been collected that morning. The hosts don't seem to like hosting. Choose somewhere else if you want to enjoy your stay.

The breakfast was great, and the woman at the accommodation gave us helpful suggestions for places to eat. We stopped at this lovely manor house in Etretat, and it was well worth the price. Highly recommend!

I booked a weekend through Expedia for a special occasion, then called the hotel to confirm. The manager said they were fully booked and that the availability had been listed by mistake. They said they'd cancel so I could arrange somewhere else, but three weeks and several calls later, there was still no cancellation. The hotel kept saying it had been cancelled, but when I contacted Expedia myself, they said they hadn't heard from the hotel. If I hadn't checked, we could have turned up to a full hotel. Terrible service for a place that claims to be luxury.
