Hôtel Kyriad Evreux - La Madeleine

The rooms were filthy, with dirty, smelly bedding, and my daughter was in tears. Our room, 26, smelled horrendously of sewage and stagnant water, with damp and mould as well. My partner and son's room was just as bad. There was a hole in the bathroom, and the door looked covered in dirt. Since we were on the ground floor, it didn't feel safe to open the window to air things out. We nearly decided to sleep in the car. Overnight, someone tried the doors along the corridor, and people kept using the fire exit to go out and smoke. We didn't feel able to raise our concerns. We arrived later than planned and were met by a rather grumpy man, with no smile or politeness. That set the tone for the whole bad experience. We're definitely not coming back anytime soon.

The hotel was a pleasant surprise for its standard. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we slept well. Reception staff were polite and helpful. Restaurants are a bit out of the way, so we had to drive a short distance, but getting back to the N154 was very convenient. I'll add this hotel group to the chains we use.

The room felt a little stuffy, and the soundproofing wasn't very good.

A friendly, affordable and comfortable hotel, with plenty of parking. It worked well as a break in our journeys between Eymet in South West France and Chester in north west England. Free hot drinks were available, and breakfast was standard fare.
