Our room problems kept going after the first night. The following day we were told to move rooms, even though I had an important online exam and we were attending my sister’s wedding. One room also had a broken door, so we had to move yet again just as we were about to leave. The staff member on duty was kind and carried our luggage to the new room, which we really appreciated. Getting checked in had already been a mess. We had booked two rooms for six people through Booking.com, with payment due at the hotel. The receptionist said we weren’t in the system and our booking was cancelled, then told us to find somewhere else. It turned out the hotel had no internet and couldn’t access the booking system. Even so, she didn’t try to help. She handed back our printed confirmation when I asked for a manager and started checking in a family who had arrived after us. They got a room without trouble. After more than an hour, she finally offered us one room for six. My sister and brother-in-law had paid online for two rooms and still had to wait a long time to check in. Later, their room codes stopped working, with reception closed and no emergency number. About 40 minutes later, a staff member arrived because new guests had turned up near midnight. She took ten minutes after we explained what happened, then gave us new codes without a word or an apology. My sister and brother-in-law had small children who were exhausted and needed sleep. The rooms are cramped. Booking.com said there would be a wardrobe, but there wasn’t, and three people with three suitcases had no room to move. There were only three dirty towels for six people, left in the sink, and the small triple room had just one towel set. If you’re a group of three, be ready to make the upper bunk yourself. I work in a hotel, and I know each place runs differently, but this service was terrible. Guests with valid reservations shouldn’t be sent away when rooms are available.

The rooms and breakfast were okay, and it seems like a decent place for one night. But self check-in led to a second full payment, even though I’d already paid for the stay through Booking.com. Customer service was basically nonexistent, and neither Booking nor ibis seemed to care. One of the worst experiences I’ve had, if not the worst.

At 8 p.m. we checked in and found no towels in the room. Reception said we’d have to wait an hour because the computer wasn’t working, but after travelling all day we needed to go get food. We ended up drying ourselves with the bath mat. Pretty embarrassing. We asked again when we got back at 11 p.m. The towels still weren’t available because they were in the dryer. Completely useless hotel. Avoid it if you can.

We’d emailed and messaged through the app to say we’d be late and ask how to check in after hours. We arrived just after 11:30 p.m., but the details from hotels.com didn’t let us into the room. The emergency contact at reception kept saying she couldn’t reach the manager and there was nothing she could do. We got the same response for more than two hours. Around 2 a.m., a casually dressed man ran into the hotel and gave us the room details. We’d driven from the UK and just wanted to sleep. We couldn’t book a room through their system, otherwise we would have. The manager clearly wasn’t doing their job, and the ibis emergency contact was no help. Avoid.

The self check-in was quick and easy, and the free parking was spacious. Sadly, that was about all I liked. I know this is a budget place and wasn’t expecting much space, but I’ve stayed at ibis budgets before and this was one of my worst experiences. The bed was uncomfortable and the sheets were poor, though I could have put up with that. Hair all over the bathroom, including stuck to my pretty worn bath towel, was harder to accept. Cleanliness and a comfortable night’s sleep are basic things any hotel should provide. Then housekeeping woke us at 9 a.m., after a long drive the night before, to ask whether we were staying longer. I couldn’t get back to sleep after that.
