We left after one night, even though we’d booked two. The owners didn’t object to cancelling the second night, which we appreciated, especially since everything in Gavarnie was closed at the end of the season and there was nowhere to eat. They were friendly, and the location is excellent, with spacious rooms and real potential if the place were properly renovated. As it is, it feels neglected and generally run-down, with old, very poor-quality furnishings, uncomfortable mattresses, a cold room, and very little cleaning.

The warm welcome was the best part, and we’ll definitely come back. Our whole family stayed in one large room without feeling cramped, and access to the shared dining room was a real bonus. It’s also perfectly located for skiing. We had an unforgettable week at Jean-Michel and Bernadette's!

The view was a real joy, and breakfast was very good. I stayed five days with my son and we were delighted. Jean Michel and Bernadette were welcoming and always available, and gave us excellent tips for hikes nearby.

The room was sad-looking but comfortable. We missed having a TV, since the evenings felt long with meals served in the room. There was no cozy entrance or lounge, and the welcome was minimal. Worse, I was insulted and threatened after I opened the window to check the temperature so I’d know how to dress. The gentleman pointed a gun at me and threatened to turn off the heating. In 20 years of staying in guest rooms, I’d never experienced anything like this. Meals and the bathroom get 2 out of 10.
