L Auberge Au Bord Du Lac

The lake view from our room was something special. We slept well despite hearing the neighbors and other noises when we went to bed, and the room looked clean. We had a pleasant evening and morning at this modest auberge in a beautiful setting. They seemed short on staff, but since we visited in late September it was understandable and caused no problems. The staff were very friendly, and they checked our pass sanitaire. The menu was a little limited, but our steak and fish were good and not expensive. Breakfast had a nice selection of confitures. Merci.

The location by the lake is lovely, and you can see the potential, but the experience left us very disappointed. For 130 euros for four people, the food, service, and overall visit were very poor. Most of the dishes are fried and pricey. And the crème brûlée, les gars, should arrive brûlée and warm at the table. That’s the whole point of the dessert. You can’t torch it in the morning, put it in the fridge, then serve it cold. The chef deserves a hot beer on a sunny day for that. It felt like visiting a friend’s mountain cabin for a weekend. After a long hike they cook for you, you don’t really like the food, but you’re hungry, eat it, and are almost glad you did. The tables were wobbly, and the tables and outdoor seating design gets 2/5. There was no running water at the sink in the men’s toilets. It feels as though they want to make as much money as possible before selling to someone else, without caring about customers. Wake up.

The dining room overlooks the lake beautifully, and our room was spacious and practical. The setting itself was beautiful.

The view was very nice, but everything else was poor. The dishes cost far too much for what was served, including a blackened steak hachee. The owner seemed not to care about guests, which we saw when we had to return over a possible double payment caused by a banking error. Worst of all, we found dog faeces in several places on the terrace and at the kids playground. We suspected the owner's dog had left it, since it often came over to our table even though our family clearly didn’t appreciate that.
